Privacy

Website content

The website does not use analytics, tracking scripts or cookies set by the site itself. Images and styles are served with the pages, and the site uses the fonts already installed on your device; external maps, videos and social-media feeds are not embedded. There is no contact form or user account system.

Hosting and connection data

Hosting provider: HostGator, a brand of Newfold Digital, Inc. (United States). The server that delivers this site is operated in Phoenix, Arizona.

To deliver a requested page, the hosting service processes technical connection information, including the visitor’s IP address and the requested resource. This processing is distinct from visitor analytics. Because the server is operated in the United States, this connection information is transferred to a third country within the meaning of Chapter V of the GDPR.

We do not use hosting data to analyse visitors or build user profiles.

We intend to move this site to Codeberg Pages (Codeberg e.V., Berlin, Germany) and will update this section when the move has taken place.

Email and external services

If you contact us by email, we use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry. Messages sent to the institute email address are handled through Max Planck Society systems; see the institute’s privacy information.

Following a link to an external service, including the interactive atlas, GitHub, Matrix or the Fediverse, opens a service with its own privacy arrangements.
